THE agreement that has been signed between the Mangaung metro and the Linyi municipality in China has the prospects of helping the local authority create much needed jobs, Mangaung metro mayor Olly Mlamleli said.

The memorandum of understanding would bring the much needed economic change, he said.

The MoU was signed between Mangaung and the deputy mayor of Linyi Municipality People’s Government, Li Yiming from Shantung province in China.

“There are many improvement that we are on at the moment but most of all is employment, as anyone can see there are many empty factories that are not utilised that can be used for the manufacturing,” Mlamleli said.

She said in order to employ people they needed to have industrialisation, without industrialisation there is no way that we can be in a position to create jobs.

She said that they would not have their own production, adequate number of export and they would have to make sure that they were improving the manufacturing in Bloemfontein, Botshabelo and Thaba Nchu where there were available factories.

“Let us remember China is big in textile industry, so we want them to train our own people especially women and young people to own the factories to ensure that they are generating money which will be increasing, putting more economic injection.

This will help us a lot as we will be rooting out unemployment,” Mlamleli said.

She said they were not only concentrating on factories but also on tourism as there were events and tourism attraction areas in Mangaung.

“We have Macufe, Flower Festival, Nelson Mandela statue and the Planetarium both at Naval Hill.

Planetarium is a structure in the southern Hemisphere that is attracting the academics to come and study here, therefore it is one of our tourists points,” said Mlamleli adding that there are two statues of OR Tambo and Fidel Castro.

Li Yiming briefly said they were looking forward to work with Mangaung metro and they and agreed on terms to assist with dealing with unemployment.

“We are fine because we know that our country is having a good relationship not only with the municipality but also with the provincial government,” he said.
