Mobile App for public transport modes
GAUTENG public transport modes are to receive a mobile app as part of the provincial government’s plans of gearing up for the Fourth Industrial Revolution and modernisation of public transport.
Gauteng MEC for roads and transport Ismail Vadi will tomorrow launch the mobile application (app) under the theme Gauteng on the Move for all public transport modes in the province.
“We are already seeing the power of technology that every day is reshaping public transport services, marketing and consumption. The global technological changes we are witnessing are sparking a revolution in the transport sector,” Vadi said.
The mobile application is aimed at providing commuters with real time, accurate public transit information, timetables and fares for Gauteng based public transit operators. The transport modes include Gautrain, A re Yeng, Rea Vaya, Metrorail, Gautrain Bus Services, Johannesburg City Sightseeing, minibus taxis, long distance buses and the Tshwane Bus Services.
“We will therefore use innovation, research and development emanating from the Fourth Industrial Revolution to promote a smart province to improve efficiency and access to services. This will be pursued through strategic investments in ICT infrastructure,” Vadi said.
The launch includes the details and demonstration of the app’s functionality and will take place at the Mobility Seminar in Midrand.
