Bafana’s worst drop

APART from who he picks, Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter’s biggest headache on Tuesday when he announces his squad to face Burkina Faso in a 2018 World Cup qualifier will be the team’s massive drop in rankings.

Bafana have fallen an astonishing 14 places in the Fifa rankings, landing on the 80th spot in the world and 18th in Africa.

This is Bafana’s worst ranking since 2013.

This has added to the team’s woes, with Safa having chosen not to challenge Fifa’s decision to have the World Cup qualifying match between Bafana and Senegal replayed. That decision, coupled with Bafana’s back to back losses to Cape Verde, now sees Bafana bottom of Group D with a single point, while Burkina Faso and Cape Verde are joint top with six points each.
