Man in court on murder charge
A MAN, 19, will appear in the Galeshewe Magistrate’s Court today over charges of murder and housebreaking with intent to steal.
Police spokesperson Capt Olebogeng Tawana said the man was linked to the murder of an elderly person in Kimberley.
“The suspect broke into the house and murdered the elderly man and stole electric appliances including groceries,” Tawana said. “The suspect was arrested on Wednesday after he was seen selling some of the electrical appliances belonging to the deceased.”
Police said they immediately recovered some of the appliances which were stolen from the deceased’s house after the arrest of the suspect.
Tawana said investigations were continuing into the case.
Meanwhile, the police in the province hailed Operation Phakisa as a success in rooting out criminal acts.

She said the different stakeholders such as government departments and the state security agencies took part in the four day activities.
“During the operation, a number of people were arrested for various crimes such as the possession of rock lobsters, possession of drugs and possession of dangerous weapons,” Mooi said.
