KWAZULU-NATAL is set to get its own InvestSA One Stop Shop (OSS) after the Western Cape – with President Jacob Zuma launching it at the weekend in Durban.

The shop will be housed within Trade and Investment KwaZulu-Natal (TIKZN), a provincial governmentowned entity tasked with scouting for investments from the province.

Trade and Investment Minister Rob Davies said the aim of the entity was to provide strategic guidance, reduce regulatory inefficiencies and red tape for investors looking to invest in the province.

The InvestSA OSS is a government programme that will prioritise and promotei investment in South Africa as a whole. The National Invest SA One Stop Shop is housed at the DTI Campus in Pretoria. Zuma formally announced the establishment of InvestSA in his state of the nation address and informed business leaders of the initiative in February last year. This was after business people had informed the government on many occasions of the difficulties and delays they incur when having to move from one department or institution to another to obtain licences and other services.

The government has responded through this initiative.

Davies said the process leading to the launch had been an excellent example of collaboration between different levels of the government, with the centre to be jointly operated by the Department of Trade and Industry – together with the provincial government and KwaZuluNatal department of economic development, tourism and environmental affairs.

He said the “value-proposition” for the provincial One Stop Shops was the coordination and incorporation of special economic zones, provincial investment agencies, local authorities and relevant government departments involved in regulatory, registration, permits and licensing matters.

Welcoming the opening of the centre, the premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Willies Mchunu, said the facility would assist in facilitating foreign direct investment.

“Our long-term vision is to become a prosperous province with a healthy, secure and skilled population and acting as a gateway to Africa and the world.,” Mchunu said.

PLANNING AHEADS: President Jacob Zuma and Minister Rob Davies are backing Invest SA One Stop Shop.
