PROTEAS stand-in captain AB de Villiers hailed his team’s performance in the oneoff daynight Test match against Zimbabwe as a good exercise ahead of the blockbuster Test series against India.

South Africa managed an innings and 120 run victory at St George’s Park inside two days in the run up to the meeting with India.

While the Proteas plan is to go to the top of the Test rankings and stopping India from winning their 10th straight Test series win will be their immediate focus.

De Villiers is still basking in the experience of playing with the pink ball and said it had left him and coach Ottis Gibson with some good lessons.

“I found the batsmen were a little bit more positive. There were talks of declaring earlier than normal, I spoke to Gibbo (Gibson) last night and we started talking about declarations a lot earlier than normal. It encourages a lot more positive cricket.

“I still enjoy fiveday cricket but there is definitely an excitement to day-night Test cricket for four days. It is positive, there is a lot happening and we all enjoyed it as well as the spectators,” De Villiers said.
