Gupta property raided
LAW enforcement authorities again swooped on the Gupta family property in Saxonwold yesterday, after the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) obtained an order from the Bloemfontein High Court to seize assets belonging to several people and entities linked to the funds meant for emerging black farmers in the Estina farm project in Vrede, Free State.
This raid is the third this year, the first in February at the same residence, when the Hawks confirmed that they were executing warrants of arrests relating to the project. Five people were arrested. In March another raid happened at Saharapur, India.
NPA spokesperson Luvuyo Mfaku said the Asset Forfeiture Unit obtained an order on April 11 last year relating to the Vrede dairy project.
Mfaku said the raid was led by the curator, investigators from the Asset Forfeiture Unit and the Hawks and was aimed at compiling a list of all the assets and value them.
“On April 11 last year, NPA (Asset Forfeiture Unit) obtained a restraint order in the Bloemfontein High Court in the amount of R250.2m against the assets of several individuals and entities who were implicated in the offences

of theft, fraud and money laundering, in respect of the Vrede dairy project, Estina matter,” Mfaku said.
He confirmed that among the assets forming part of the restraint order, include immovable property (residential and business premises and farms), two aircraft, a helicopter, vehicles and bank accounts belonging to certain entities, namely Oakbay Investments, Islandsite Investments 180, Confidents Concept, Sahara Computer, Westdawn Investments and Aerohaven Trading. Mfaku said the order was a result of ongoing criminal investigations by the Hawks (DPCI) which led to the arrest and institution of criminal prosecutions against the aforesaid entities and individuals.
“The order makes provision for the restraint of several assets to the value of R250.2m pending the finalisation of the criminal trial.
“Upon conviction the AFU will apply for a confiscation order for the recovery of the said amount and/or any related amounts,” Mfaku said.
“The action is part of ongoing criminal investigations by the NPA and DPCI jointly working with other law enforcement agencies in addressing fraud and corruption, more specifically corruption in the private sector and ensuring the recovery of any government losses.”
