THE Western Cape MEC for social development, Albert Fritz, this week announced that he would be seeking an urgent meeting with the minister of social development to address the non-delivery of disaster relief services in the province by the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa).

The announcement comes after the MEC noted the delays in service delivery to residents who were affected by fire just outside Cape Town.

The MEC plans to write to the minister this week to request a meeting and get clarity on what steps would be taken to address non-delivery by Sassa. “I will seek an urgent meeting with the Minister of Social Development, Susan Shabangu.

“It is concerning to note a growing trend in communities across the province which have experienced service delivery delays or have been left unassisted by Sassa after a major incident or disaster.
