POLICE have made a breakthrough in arresting a 46-year-old suspect following the fatal shooting of 35-year-old Dan Phiri in Stinkwater, Hammanskraal on Sunday.

Police said investigations led to the suspect’s place of residence where he was arrested and he will appear in the Moretele Magistrate’s Court soon.

Meanwhile, a second suspect in the murder of a 69-year-old woman was released. On Saturday Ratanda police arrested the deceased’s daughter and her son on suspicion of killing the pensioner.

The sector vehicle responded to the complaint of murder at Machitje Street in Ratanda and found the victim with a cloth in her mouth and her jersey tied around her.

“The husband to the deceased said that he found his wife lying in a pool of blood he then called his son and they both called the police.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that the daughter whom the deceased had the protection order against, that states she is not allowed to enter the house or the premises was seen leaving the house a night before the mother was found dead. The investigation led to the arrest to the daughter of the deceased and her son,” police spokesperson Sgt Lerato Mngomezulu said.

Ratanda police are still investigating the matter and said they welcomed any information that the community might have to help solve the case.
