Syndicate involved in robberies
POLICE in Bloemfontein have arrested members of a syndicate that has been involved in business robberies around the city in the past few weeks.
Police spokesperson Sgt Sinah Mpakane confirmed that a group of robbers including a woman, were arrested yesterday morning after a hotel in Heidedal, Bloemfontein was robbed in the early hours of the morning.
She said five men entered the hotel while two others waited outside.
Following the robbery, the men then jumped in a white minibus and drove away.
Mpakane said seven people were arrested shortly after the robbery.
She said the same syndicate was also linked to another robbery in the city that took place at 4am on Saturday when two men who were armed invaded a filling station near Navalsig High School.
They took an undisclosed amount of money, cigarettes and other goods after which they fled in a white car.
“The same white car was used at the gas station on Saturday and later at the hotel on Monday morning but was later found by police at a house in Bloemside,” she said.
Mpakane said the police reacted swiftly after information was obtained following the robbery and two men were arrested. The rest of the men were later arrested at the Bloemside house.
She said the stolen goods in both robberies were found in the minibus and in the house.
The syndicate is expected to appear in court soon.
