THE Cosatu strike planned for September 27 is only the beginning and another is planned for October, says the trade union federation’s national treasurer Freda Oosthuysen.

Speaking at a workers’ rally in support of ANC presidential candidate Cyril Ramaphosa, she said Cosatu has filed a Section 77 notice in terms of the Labour Relations Act to strike later this month.

Among the reasons for the strike she said were workers’ abhorrence of state capture, corruption, labour brokers, etolls, poor and unsafe public transport, education, health and job losses.

“On September 27 there is no turning back. We are going to make the streets red. It is a national stayaway,” Oosthuysen said on Wednesday.

“This is only the beginning, the first day of mass action. If we don’t achieve our goals on September 27 we’ll come back in October. Cosatu says to the ANC, tell your No 1, ‘step aside Comrade JZ’.”
