Movie mogul’s sex saga a lesson to all

The New Age (Northern Cape) - - COMMENT -

THE story of the fall from grace of movie mogul Harvey Weinstein has been flashed across the world on every available media platform. The accounts emerging of his abuse of women, which include allegations of rape, go to show how wealthy individuals exploit positions of power.

Fortunately the whistle was blown on this serial sexual predator in a newspaper article which was then followed by a public outpouring from many women accusing Weinstein of harassing them sexually.

We must learn from this and ensure that in our society people who are in positions of power do not use this to exploit other people. We have our own horrific accounts of people doing things like this, one just has to think back to the tennis player and coach Bob Hewitt who was involved in sexually abusing young girls.

We need to be vigilant at all times and also be open about educating people about dangerous sexual predators who exist in society and how to effectively combat this scourge.
