More visibility in festive season
POLICE in the Free State say they won’t put up with any nonsense from criminals ahead of the festive season.
They said they will be increasing visibility throughout the period until January next year.
Provincial commissioner Lt-Gen Lebeoana Tsumane launched the Festive Season Operation in Thabong near Welkom at the weekend. He said the purpose of the launch was to display the show of force in preparation for the festive season.
“Joint operations by various law enforcement agencies will be conducted to ensure the community of the Free State, as well as visitors are and feel safe,” Tsumane said.
The show of force in the form of a motorcade and a drill platoon resumed from Boitumelo Shopping Centre to Thabong Indoor Sports Centre where the main event was held.
Before delivering his keynote address, the provincial commissioner accepted the Free State operational plan on behalf of the police, roads and transport MEC Sam Mashinini.
“We are gathered here today to carry forward our clarion call to you as residents of this province, to support and work in partnership with the police during the festive season.
We are here to say, we cannot allow criminals to rule your festive season and we cannot allow criminals to rob you of all your earnings, which you acquired through legitimate hard work and dedication,” Tsumane addressing hundreds of residents said.
He said in order for them to deal with crime, the police need the residents’ support and for everyone to work together.
Tsumane distributed more than 120 patrols cars to various cluster stations within the province to ensure safety during the festive season.
The provincial Community Policing Forum chairperson, Advocate Sephiri Moshodi, encouraged residents to report any misuse of police resources to ensure they are pointed in the right direction, which is to prevent crime and protect the community.
