Mount Havila

MOUNT Havilah is a story that portrays the deep inner part of an astral life. It draws a mental realm in the mind of the audience and takes them on an epic adventure. It creates a whole new world that exists within and outside the existing world, yet language and culture remains the same. In the story, a young man by the name of Jehu, is anointed and released to a place called Mount Havilah, he is declared as the chosen warrior that must be sent to find the three secret scrolls that need to be restored to the village called Gihon. On his journey he discovers a place where long lost souls are trapped and corpses are mummified, and where he feels a sense of having to awaken them back to life. Tickets R60, 6pm, Joburg Theatre, Braamfontein

Hedwig and The Angry Inch

AFTER its sold out season in Cape Town, this edgy, award-winning punkrock musical will hit Johannesburg like a sledgehammer. Hedwig and the Angry Inch is a brilliantly innovative, heart-breaking and wickedly funny musical sensation. With a pulsing score and electrifying performances, it tells the story of one of the most unique characters ever to hit the stage. The plot revolves around Hansel, a transgender singer from East Berlin. Tommy steals her music and is rocketed to stardom, leaving Hedwig behind. The musical follows Hedwig, her roadie, Yitzhak, and their fictional rock band, The Angry Inch, as they shadow Tommy’s tour while exploring Hedwig’s past and her complex gender identity.
