Nervy times for Komphela, Hunt
PRESSURE is what Steve Komphela and Gavin Hunt are sharing right now.
Despite Kaizer Chiefs’ victory over Cape Town City on Wednesday, Komphela is still under pressure. And ahead of the PSL match between Chiefs and Bidvest Wits at FNB Stadium tomorrow, the pressure could intensify for Hunt as well. It’s not the kind of pressure facing Chiefs, but following PSL champions Wits’ poor start to the season with four defeats in all competitions, Hunt’s men are desperate for a victory.
While Chiefs won on Wednesday night, Wits lost 3-1 to Golden Arrows at home to record back-to-back defeats.
Komphela admitted that the win eased a bit of pressure but said it was bad time to play the champions.
“I can imagine what Gavin is saying in the dressing room and knowing him, he is not the one to bring you roses,” Komphela said.
“He says exactly what he feels. But it was important for us to get that victory against Cape Town City – not only for our players’ confidence but for our supporters as well. We are one of the teams in the league playing good football and we can build on this.”
Despite their awful start, that has also seen Wits knocked out of the MTN8, Hunt says he will not be hitting the panic button just yet.
“I’ve had worse starts than this. Of course, I’m concerned, we’ve conceded the most amount of goals since I’ve been here five years now and that’s a problem.
“We should be scoring, we’re missing hundreds of chances.”
Wits have also failed to keep a clean sheet in all of their six matches and have conceded 11 goals in the process.
