Teen in dock for rape

Ac­cused al­legedly throt­tled his el­derly aunt be­fore rap­ing her in Mak­gophong

A TEENAGE boy ar­rested for al­legedly rap­ing his el­derly aunt at Mak­gophong vil­lage in Zebe­diela at the week­end will ap­ply for bail in the Thabamoopo Mag­is­trate’s Court in Le­bowak­gomo next week.

The 19 year old, whose name has been with­held to pro­tect the iden­tity of the pen­sioner, ap­peared briefly in court on Mon­day and was re­manded in cus­tody.

The case was post­poned to Novem­ber 21 for a bail ap­pli­ca­tion.

The po­lice said he at­tacked and raped the 64-year-old woman at her home at Mak­gophong vil­lage in the early hours of Satur­day.

“The el­derly woman heard a knock at the door in the early hours. She opened and was sur­prised to see her nephew dressed only in his un­der­wear stand­ing in front of her. He then throt­tled her un­til she be­came un­con­scious. He then raped her,” po­lice spokesper­son Lt-Col Moatshe Ngoepe said.

The woman later re­gained con­scious­ness and raised the alarm. The po­lice were in­formed and the sus­pect was later ar­rested.

In an­other in­ci­dent, a 51-year-old school teacher ac­cused of rap­ing a teenage girl will ap­pear again in the Ri­tavi Mag­is­trate’s Court out­side Tza­neen on De­cem­ber 13.

The sus­pect ap­peared briefly in court on Mon­day and the case was post­poned for fur­ther po­lice in­ves­ti­ga­tion. He is out on R5 000 bail.

He al­legedly raped the 14-year-old girl in­side his car while trav­el­ling home from school on Oc­to­ber 13.

“He re­port­edly stopped at a shop to buy some­thing and drove on again. But along the way he stopped again and al­legedly raped the girl in­side the car and later es­corted her home.

“She spilled the beans at home about her or­deal and the teacher was later ar­rested,” Ngoepe said.
