Teen in dock for rape
Accused allegedly throttled his elderly aunt before raping her in Makgophong
A TEENAGE boy arrested for allegedly raping his elderly aunt at Makgophong village in Zebediela at the weekend will apply for bail in the Thabamoopo Magistrate’s Court in Lebowakgomo next week.
The 19 year old, whose name has been withheld to protect the identity of the pensioner, appeared briefly in court on Monday and was remanded in custody.
The case was postponed to November 21 for a bail application.
The police said he attacked and raped the 64-year-old woman at her home at Makgophong village in the early hours of Saturday.
“The elderly woman heard a knock at the door in the early hours. She opened and was surprised to see her nephew dressed only in his underwear standing in front of her. He then throttled her until she became unconscious. He then raped her,” police spokesperson Lt-Col Moatshe Ngoepe said.
The woman later regained consciousness and raised the alarm. The police were informed and the suspect was later arrested.
In another incident, a 51-year-old school teacher accused of raping a teenage girl will appear again in the Ritavi Magistrate’s Court outside Tzaneen on December 13.
The suspect appeared briefly in court on Monday and the case was postponed for further police investigation. He is out on R5 000 bail.
He allegedly raped the 14-year-old girl inside his car while travelling home from school on October 13.
“He reportedly stopped at a shop to buy something and drove on again. But along the way he stopped again and allegedly raped the girl inside the car and later escorted her home.
“She spilled the beans at home about her ordeal and the teacher was later arrested,” Ngoepe said.
