Min­is­ters to brief on cri­sis

FOUR Cab­i­net min­is­ters, in­clud­ing those of fi­nance and wa­ter and san­i­ta­tion, Malusi Gi­gaba and Nomvula Mokonyane, are to be called to Par­lia­ment for a cru­cial brief­ing on South Africa’s wa­ter cri­sis.

The two oth­ers are Agri­cul­ture, Forestry and Fish­eries Min­is­ter Sen­zeni Zok­wana and Co­op­er­a­tive Gov­er­nance and Tra­di­tional Af­fairs Min­is­ter Des van Rooyen.

Also in­vited to brief the wa­ter and san­i­ta­tion port­fo­lio com­mit­tee next Tues­day are Cape Town mayor Pa­tri­cia de Lille and Western Cape MEC of lo­cal gov­ern­ment, en­vi­ron­men­tal af­fairs and de­vel­op­ment plan­ning, An­ton Bre­dell.

The four min­is­ters will be ex­pected to brief Par­lia­ment about what work has been done thus far.

“This is with a view to ... find so­lu­tions to the wa­ter cri­sis ex­pe­ri­enced by the Western Cape and other parts of the coun­try,” the DA’s shadow min­is­ter of wa­ter and san­i­ta­tion, Leon Bas­son, said.

Mokonyane must avail her­self for this im­por­tant meet­ing he said be­cause this was a sub­ject of na­tional rel­e­vance.
