Ministers to brief on crisis
FOUR Cabinet ministers, including those of finance and water and sanitation, Malusi Gigaba and Nomvula Mokonyane, are to be called to Parliament for a crucial briefing on South Africa’s water crisis.
The two others are Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister Senzeni Zokwana and Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Des van Rooyen.
Also invited to brief the water and sanitation portfolio committee next Tuesday are Cape Town mayor Patricia de Lille and Western Cape MEC of local government, environmental affairs and development planning, Anton Bredell.
The four ministers will be expected to brief Parliament about what work has been done thus far.
“This is with a view to ... find solutions to the water crisis experienced by the Western Cape and other parts of the country,” the DA’s shadow minister of water and sanitation, Leon Basson, said.
Mokonyane must avail herself for this important meeting he said because this was a subject of national relevance.
