Mysterious death of farm worker probed
THE death of a Welgelee farm worker in Oliphantshoek is still a mystery as police investigate the case.
Eddy Appolis was found 140km outside Olifantshoek last Saturday. He was last seen at his employer’s farm sleeping. He was reported missing by his family and his body was found after four days of intensive search.
Police spokesperson Capt Sergio Kock said Appolis was found by the police’s air wing.
“The police in Kuruman and Kimberley together with the search and rescue unit and community assisted with the search and are all commended for their hard work,” he said.
Kock said an inquest was being investigated.
“He was sleeping in his boxer shorts and was bare-chested. When the other farm employees later returned, Appolis was nowhere to be found. He is an Olifantshoek resident and stays at 386 Muisvoel Street,” Kock said.
Police requested anyone with information call Det-Const Mqaisa on 073 840 2654.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated matter, Danielskuil police arrested three men after being found in possession of a suspected stolen vehicle, a laptop and bank cards.
Spokesperson Col-Maj Dimakatso Mooi said the trio were stopped by police members after a suspicious vehicle was spotted in the area.
“Police could not get any clarity from the occupants on the lawful ownership of any of the items in their possession,” Mooi said.
Furthermore, the investigation discovered that the items, including the vehicle, were stolen during a house robbery in Postmasburg on January 27, where a 31yearold male was attacked and assaulted before the suspects fled with the property in question.”
