Sol Plaatje ready to start lectures
WITH the registration of new and existing students completed at the Sol Plaatje University it’s now all systems go for the official opening.
The university will host an opening ceremony for the new and returning students on Saturday.
Vice-chancellor professor Yunus Ballim is expected to give the keynote address and highlight some of the achievements the university achieved.
He is also expected to give encouragement to the new students who will be starting with their studies on Monday.
The university said the orientation week which started last week would be coming to an end on Friday and lectures were going to start next week in the different faculties.
“We are ready and prepared for the academic year, we hope that everything will go according to plan, so we should be ready,” Ballim said.
“Everything has been going smoothly thus far and there have been no hiccups or any major challenges since day one of registration.”
Ballim urged all student organisations to work with universities and avoid any chaos and havoc. Meanwhile, the ANCYL in the Frances Baard region, urged the students to use the university to acquire skills and be job creators and not seekers.
Spokesperson Khanyi Mabaso said the young people of the region were at an advantageous position than others because the campus was on their doorstep. He said gone were the days when young people were going to be roaming around the streets without going to school.
He said together with Sasco and other youth structures, they were encouraging young people to learn.
“We saying to young people of the region and the province, here is a fully functional university with faculties such as data sciences that we want to see more and more young people enrolling in,” Mabaso said.
“Young people here have the advantage of using the institution.”
