The pro­jec­tions pre­sented in the report are based upon spe­cific pro­duc­tion stan­dards and in­di­cate his­toric and fore­casted trends only. he av­er­age price South African broiler pro­duc­ers re­alise for their prod­ucts, af­ter de­duc­tions, is cal­cu­lated monthly, based on con­fi­den­tial pro­duc­tion and pric­ing data sup­plied to SAPA by the in­dus­try. The data col­lected in­cludes the to­tal vol­ume and value of fresh and frozen broiler prod­ucts and of in­di­vid­ual broiler “por­tions”, such as whole birds, bone-in por­tions, of­fal, etc.

The con­fi­den­tial­ity of this process is en­sured through the in­volve­ment of a team of au­di­tors who deal with the raw data. Thus, any or all in­for­ma­tion, data, know-how, doc­u­men­ta­tion, ma­te­ri­als and other com­mu­ni­ca­tions, writ­ten or oral, which are dis­closed or pro­vided to SAPA or its de­signees by a pro­ducer are re­garded as con­fi­den­tial in­for­ma­tion be­long­ing to that pro­ducer and can­not be dis­closed to any other pro­ducer, in­di­vid­ual or or­gan­i­sa­tion.

Many lo­cal and in­ter­na­tional busi­nesses and or­gan­i­sa­tions, banks, re­searchers and govern­ment de­part­ments re­quest the poul­try sta­tis­tics con­tained in this, and other, SAPA re­ports. The data are used in de­ci­sion-mak­ing pro­cesses, in pri­ori­tis­ing in­vest­ments, in re­search projects, an­nual re­ports and trade ap­pli­ca­tions, etc. Ac­cu­rate sta­tis­ti­cal in­for­ma­tion is of ben­e­fit to all role play­ers, so an ap­peal is made to all users of this monthly SAPA report to please en­sure that your com­pany con­trib­utes to the re­li­a­bil­ity of these data by sub­mit­ting pric­ing data ev­ery month. The pro­ducer price, some­times re­ferred to as the net sales value (NSV) or re­al­i­sa­tion, is the in­voice price less any vol­ume or set­tle­ment dis­counts; less any re­bates or ad­ver­tis­ing costs; less any di­rect or sec­ondary dis­tri­bu­tion dis­counts; and ex­clud­ing VAT. It is the net in­come to the busi­ness of a kilo­gramme of broiler prod­uct.

Monthly broiler pro­ducer price

In May 2015, the monthly weighted broiler pro­ducer price for fresh and frozen prod­ucts, com­bined, in­creased by 2.8 %. The broiler pro­ducer price was es­ti­mated at R19.18 per kg. Com­pared with May 2014, this price has in­creased by 11.9 % (+ R2.05). Ac­cord­ing to par­tic­i­pants in the monthly pric­ing sur­vey, frozen meat con­trib­uted 90.1 % to to­tal sales, whilst fresh meat con­trib­uted 9.9 %.

The av­er­age, weighted to­tal re­al­i­sa­tion price for the first quar­ter (1Q 2015) is R17.98 per kg, a de­crease of 1.2 %
