The projections presented in the report are based upon specific production standards and indicate historic and forecasted trends only. he average price South African broiler producers realise for their products, after deductions, is calculated monthly, based on confidential production and pricing data supplied to SAPA by the industry. The data collected includes the total volume and value of fresh and frozen broiler products and of individual broiler “portions”, such as whole birds, bone-in portions, offal, etc.
The confidentiality of this process is ensured through the involvement of a team of auditors who deal with the raw data. Thus, any or all information, data, know-how, documentation, materials and other communications, written or oral, which are disclosed or provided to SAPA or its designees by a producer are regarded as confidential information belonging to that producer and cannot be disclosed to any other producer, individual or organisation.
Many local and international businesses and organisations, banks, researchers and government departments request the poultry statistics contained in this, and other, SAPA reports. The data are used in decision-making processes, in prioritising investments, in research projects, annual reports and trade applications, etc. Accurate statistical information is of benefit to all role players, so an appeal is made to all users of this monthly SAPA report to please ensure that your company contributes to the reliability of these data by submitting pricing data every month. The producer price, sometimes referred to as the net sales value (NSV) or realisation, is the invoice price less any volume or settlement discounts; less any rebates or advertising costs; less any direct or secondary distribution discounts; and excluding VAT. It is the net income to the business of a kilogramme of broiler product.
Monthly broiler producer price
In May 2015, the monthly weighted broiler producer price for fresh and frozen products, combined, increased by 2.8 %. The broiler producer price was estimated at R19.18 per kg. Compared with May 2014, this price has increased by 11.9 % (+ R2.05). According to participants in the monthly pricing survey, frozen meat contributed 90.1 % to total sales, whilst fresh meat contributed 9.9 %.
The average, weighted total realisation price for the first quarter (1Q 2015) is R17.98 per kg, a decrease of 1.2 %
