T he US Depart­ment of Agri­cul­ture an­i­mal and plant in­spec­tion ser­vice has dis­cov­ered the pres­ence of the highly path­o­genic H5N2 avian

in­fluenza strain in a wild duck in Alaska. The duck was found on a for­mer dairy farm, and was one of 188 birds tested as part of the USDA’S na­tional screen­ing pro­gramme.
