Given the baking heat wave we’ve been suffering over the last few weeks, of special interest to our smallholder or backyard producers is a piece on hot weather and its effect on egg production. Take a little time out to read this and you could save a bundle in the long run.
South Africa is one of the world’s most unprotected agricultural markets - and there is certainly a shortage of subsidies or grants to assist our farmers and boost their production and markets. In stark contrast, the EU is spending R1,5 billion to boost theirs. Will our government take note, especially when our producers are being asked to compete with international ones on a supposed level playing field!

There is some critical information on the government’s planned interventions aimed at boosting the concept of an inclusive economy in the agricultural sector.
