KFC support fair play Transformation issues identified
KFC, SA’S largest buyer of poultry, has pledged its support to the Fairplay Movement - a non-profit organisation that seeks to end the practice of ‘dumping’ surplus chicken in South Africa and globally. The movement was founded in October last year and forms alliances with existing organisations and experts like SAPA and Food and the Food and Allied Workers Union to formulate and promote strategies that could curb the problem.
As one of the country’s largest purchasers of poultry, KFC is proud and remains committed to sourcing all its poultry locally. The company strongly believes that an environment with fair competition and free trade builds strong economies, communities and businesses.
“We proudly source 100% of our chicken locally and we believe this shows commitment to competitive and thriving local industries as well as to serving the great quality chicken our customers know and love,” says Thabisa Mkhwanazi, Corporate Communications Director, KFC Africa. “Our local farmers and suppliers play a vital role in growing and sustaining our economy. They are also competitive on a global scale and this partnership reinforces our commitment to the local poultry industry which must be protected from unfair trade practices. Healthy competition is important and the playing fields should be levelled.”¡
