EZ­I­BE­LENI po­lice made a break­through in their fight against deal­ing in drugs when they ar­rested two sus­pects aged 22 and 42 on June 4 and con­fis­cated dagga worth thou­sands of rands.

Po­lice spokesman war­rant of­fi­cer Namhla Mdle­leni said po­lice, re­act­ing to in­for­ma­tion from the public, found dagga with a street value of R9 000 in a Zone 1 house. Iden­tity doc­u­ments and bank cards be­long­ing to dif­fer­ent peo­ple were also seized.

The sus­pects were ar­rested and ap­peared be­fore the Ez­i­be­leni Mag­is­trate’s Court on June 4. Their case was post­poned for fur­ther in­ves­ti­ga­tion.

In an un­re­lated in­ci­dent, three men, aged be­tween 18 and 21, sus­pected of mur­der­ing a Sada town­ship man on June 5 were ar­rested by the Whit­tle­sea po­lice, Mdle­leni said.

Mdle­leni said the man had been found ly­ing in a pool of blood. He had been stabbed.

The sus­pects ap- peared be­fore the Whit­tle­sea mag­is­trate’s court on June 8 with the case post­poned to Mon­day for a for­mal bail ap­pli­ca­tion.

Po­lice are also in­ves­ti­gat­ing another case of mur­der at Po­plar Grove on June 5. A 29-year-old man was al­legedly beaten to death at a tra­di­tional cer­e­mony in the area. A case of mur­der was opened, but no ar­rests have been made.

In Lady Frere, po­lice ar­rested a 33-year-old man for the al­leged rob­bery and mur­der of Nce­bakazi Qaliwe, 22, who had gone miss­ing from her home on May 15 in Ngcuka ad­min­is­tra­tive area. A for­mal bail ap­pli­ca­tion will be made on June 15.

Qaliwe’s body was found half buried near a river on May 21.

The Sterk­stroom po­lice ar­rested four sus­pects in pos­ses­sion of dagga and sus­pected stolen prop­erty at Masakane lo­ca­tion re­cently.

Po­lice were pa­trolling the area when they re­ceived in­for­ma­tion, Mdle­leni said.
