Youth in provincial squad
YAMKELA Madanda, 18, from Mlungisi has been selected to take part in the South African Football Association (Safa) SAB U21 Eastern Cape team that will participate at the national competition in Pretoria from June 28 to July 5.
Madanda, who plays for All Star XI, is the only player from the Chris Hani district who will participate at the national event.
In an interview on Tuesday, Madanda said he was pleased with his selection. “This is my first year playing in the SAB league and I have been selected to represent the province. This shows that I have talent and my coach is doing a great job.”
Players from the Eastern Cape were often not taken seriously and it was up to the team members to prove that they were worthy of being in the national team.
“I thank my family and all those who helped me in my career. I am going to make them proud.”
All Star coach Ringo Klaas said Madanda was a disciplined player.
“This is the first time that I have had a player selected to represent the Eastern Cape U21 team.”
Madanda left Queenstown on Wednesday to join a camp in East London. On Saturday they will leave for Pretoria where they will compete at the Safa SAB U21 national tourney.
