SPCA speaks on pet burials

- Rep reporter

THE Queenstown SPCA has asked people to phone the animal welfare body when their pets die.

The Rep recently carried complaints about dead dogs and cats which were being thrown on illegal dumpsites in residential areas, attracting rodents and heightening the possibility of disease.

Queenstown SPCA manager Betty Cree said people should phone the SPCA on 045-839 2819 on the death of a pet.

A ‘private’ burial, which in- cludes a plaque on a wall of remembrance and a grave, costs R150.

For a ‘normal’ burial, where the pet is put into a bag, placed in a trench and covered with soil, a donation is requested.

Decomposing pets’ bodies dumped on illegal sites caused a problem, she said.

The SPCA also collects dead pets, but a fee is charged for this.
