Woman, 27, dies in shooting
A 27-YEAR-old woman was shot dead, allegedly after a professional hunter fell and dropped his firearm on Huntershill, a game farm in the Komani district, on Sunday.
The woman, Tembisa Kula, was walking some distance away when she was hit by the bullet. She died on the scene.
Huntershill owner Greg Harvey said Kula had worked on the farm for more than 10 years. The 24-year-old professional hunter, who was also employed on the farm, had been exiting a lodge when he tripped and fell, dropping the gun which discharged. Harvey said the man had been admitted to hospital in a severe state of shock. He was receiving psychiatric counseling this week.
He expressed sadness and shock at the tragedy and said the management was cooperating with the police in their investigation.
A funeral for Kula, who originally hailed from King William’s Town, was being planned for tomorrow and transport was being arranged for Huntershill staff, Harvey said.
Police spokesman Captain Namhla Mdleleni said police were investigating the shooting.
