THE Komani police have confirmed that a burnt body found in Mlungisi a month ago is that of a missing teenager Vuyolwethu Hemeni.

Earlier this month, police initiated a task team to look for the 14-year-old Edlelweni Primary School pupil who had not returned home from school on August 25.

Shortly after her disappearance on August 26, a body which had been set alight was found between the Eskom residential area where Heneni had lived and John Noah Primary School. At the time, police were unable to confirm a link between the body and the girl’s disappearance.

Police spokesman Captain Namhla Mdleleni confirmed this week that DNA tests had proven that the body was that of the missing girl.

Mdleleni said DNA had been taken from the mother of the child and the body on the scene and it was evident that there was a familial link. Police are investigating a murder case. Police are appealing to anyone with information to contact Lieutenant Colonel Bulelwa Lembese on 086-000 1011 or on 082-441 8178.
