OWN­ERS DIS­TRAUGHT AT POI­SON­ING OF EIGHT DOGS IN KO­MANI

DOG own­ers in the Weshof res­i­den­tial area were feel­ing dis­traught on Mon­day af­ter eight dogs were poi­soned dur­ing the night.

Owner of three of the dogs, Ronel Barnardo, said the dogs had been heard bark­ing at about 2am. When the fam­ily woke up, they found two of the dogs dead in the yard and one se­verely ill. The last dog died at the vet’s of­fice on Tues­day.

Five other dogs in the neigh­bour­hood were also poi­soned and died.

Dur­ing the same night, po­lice re­ported the theft of a white Isuzu bakkie, reg­is­tra­tion num­ber CWZ 103 EC, from a home in the same area. It is not known at present whether the two in­ci­dents are linked.

Po­lice spokesman Cap­tain Namhla Mdle­leni said po­lice were in­ves­ti­gat­ing charges of ma­li­cious dam­age to prop­erty and theft of a ve­hi­cle. The ve­hi­cle had not been re­cov­ered at the time of go­ing to press.
