Of­fi­cers thwart theft at school

RED Guard se­cu­rity of­fi­cers ap­pre­hended a man who had al­legedly bro­ken into the premises of a playschool in the Ko­mani CBD last week, op­er­a­tions man­ager Wil­lie Rey­necke said.

The man ap­par­ently gained ac­cess to the premises through a bath­room win­dow and tried to es­cape with sweets, chips and speak­ers. The sus­pect was handed over to the po­lice.

On Wed­nes­day, a re­sponse of­fi­cer, re­act­ing to a panic but­ton ac­ti­va­tion, al­legedly caught a man steal­ing goods from a bakkie parked in the street. The sus­pect was handed over to the po­lice.

Last Thurs­day, an armed re­ac­tion of­fi­cer who wit­nessed a col­li­sion be­tween a sedan and a truck, called the am­bu­lance and po­lice, Rey­necke said. The driver of the sedan tried to flee and was ap­pre­hended and handed over to the po­lice.

On Fri­day, re­sponse of­fi­cers as­sisted a truck driver about 25km out of town fol­low­ing at­tempts by peo­ple to loot the truck. Goods were re­cov­ered, but some items were stolen. The loot­ers broke one side of the truck door and Red Guard waited un­til an­other truck could be dis­patched to con­vey the goods to safety. The mat­ter was handed over to the po­lice.

On Satur­day, a woman re­ported that she had been robbed of her cell­phone in Wode­house Street. Of­fi­cers chased a sus­pect and caught him, but the woman de­clined to open a case af­ter the phone was re­turned to her. – Rep reporter
