Officers thwart theft at school
RED Guard security officers apprehended a man who had allegedly broken into the premises of a playschool in the Komani CBD last week, operations manager Willie Reynecke said.
The man apparently gained access to the premises through a bathroom window and tried to escape with sweets, chips and speakers. The suspect was handed over to the police.
On Wednesday, a response officer, reacting to a panic button activation, allegedly caught a man stealing goods from a bakkie parked in the street. The suspect was handed over to the police.
Last Thursday, an armed reaction officer who witnessed a collision between a sedan and a truck, called the ambulance and police, Reynecke said. The driver of the sedan tried to flee and was apprehended and handed over to the police.
On Friday, response officers assisted a truck driver about 25km out of town following attempts by people to loot the truck. Goods were recovered, but some items were stolen. The looters broke one side of the truck door and Red Guard waited until another truck could be dispatched to convey the goods to safety. The matter was handed over to the police.
On Saturday, a woman reported that she had been robbed of her cellphone in Wodehouse Street. Officers chased a suspect and caught him, but the woman declined to open a case after the phone was returned to her. – Rep reporter
