Lightning kills 46 sheep
FORTY-SIX sheep were struck by lightning in the Dordrecht district and died on Tuesday.
Charlotte van der Berg of Dordrecht said the sheep were huddling under an overhanging rock during the rain when the lightning struck.
Van der Berg said several stock losses had been reported in the Dordrecht area as a result of plummeting temperatures during lambing and shearing season.
The temperature on Tuesday night was -3°C.
She said the losses had been devastating to farmers already battling to cope with the ravages of the ongoing drought. – Rep correspondent.
