THE MOTHER of the exotic dancer who became infamous for the Joost van der Westhuizen “sex tape” says she is determined to help her daughter kick her drug habit and has pleaded for any form of assistance.

Marietjie Burger said this at the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court yesterday after her daughter, Marlize van Emmenis, pictured, was granted bail. She was arrested on Monday at her boyfriend’s home for allegedly being in possession of half a bag of the drug Cat.

“When we get home I’m going to sit her down and have a serious talk with her about her life as this has gone on for far too long,” Burger said moments after her daughter’s appearance. “Seeing her like that in court broke my heart. She is such a lovely child who got involved in the wrong things.”

Burger pleaded for help as she wishes to take her daughter to a rehab centre. “We don’t have money. We can’t afford private rehab, but any kind of help will be appreciated,” she said, adding her daughter has been on drugs for about 10 years. “It has torn up our family. We’ve been trying to help her but couldn’t, and it has landed her in jail.”

She said Van Emmenis was scared of being in jail. “She said it was a scary place. That’s why we’re seeking help.” The stripper became infamous in 2009 after she leaked a video of her and former Springbok star Van der Westhuizen in which the pair could be seen snorting white lines believed to be cocaine. This led to Van der Westhuizen’s dramatic fall from grace.
