Al­leged drug deal­ers in dock

AN AL­LEGED drug syn­di­cate’s mem­bers ar­rested last week have ap­peared in court, po­lice said yes­ter­day. Lieu­tenant-Gen­eral Solomon Mak­gale said the State would op­pose bail when the men re­turn to court on Novem­ber 24 and De­cem­ber 1 to make for­mal bail ap­pli­ca­tions. Dur­ban club owner Gre­gory Lyris, 45, and Bul­gar­ian Valari Nikolov, 41, were ar­rested last Tues­day, al­legedly for pos­ses­sion of ec­stasy tablets, said Mak­gale. Gareth John Bris­sett, 40, Sakhile Dlamini, 28, and John Ma­pumulu, 32, were ar­rested in a raid on a Westville home the next day for al­leged pos­ses­sion of pre­cur­sor chem­i­cals used to man­u­fac­ture drugs, he said. Follow-up in­ves­ti­ga­tions on Mon­day led to the dis­cov­ery of a lab­o­ra­tory equipped with ma­chines, pre­cur­sor chem­i­cals, drugs and an undis­closed amount of cash. – Sapa
