Tackling diabetes

The Star Early Edition - - OPINION & ANALYSIS -

ODAY is World Diabetes Day, when the world pauses to ponder about one of the biggest threats to the health and well-being of South Africans and the country’s third highest cause of death, according to Stats SA figures.

The International Diabetes Federation reported in 2012 that some 371 million people worldwide had diabetes. That number is expected to increase to 552 million in the next 20 years.

While there is no cure, type 2 diabetes can be avoided through the following of a healthy eating plan and regular exercise. Get screened.
