Kimetto hopes to in­spire Africa

MARATHON world record holder Den­nis Kimetto says he hopes his story will in­spire ath­letes across South Africa and Africa to be­lieve they can make it to the high­est level de­spite the odds. Kimetto, who will at­tend the Global Ath­let­ics Con­fer­ence 2014 in Dur­ban to­day and to­mor­row, was speak­ing to the me­dia yes­ter­day. The Kenyan, who smashed the world record in Berlin in Septem­ber, said he was hum­bled to be able to share his story of suc­cess. Hosted by KwaZulu-Natal Ath­let­ics and en­dorsed by Ath­let­ics SA, the Global Ath­let­ics Con­fer­ence will dis­cuss, an­a­lyse and fo­cus on top­ics such as per­for­mance and train­ing, in­no­va­tion, com­mer­cial op­por­tu­ni­ties, spon­sor­ship, the me­dia, com­mer­cial­i­sa­tion and brand build­ing in what is en­vis­aged to be a new dawn for the sport in South Africa. The event is spon­sored by the Na­tional Lot­tery Dis­tri­bu­tion Trust and the KZN Depart­ment of Sport and Recre­ation.
