Al­leged rhino poacher in at­tack

A MAN out on bail for rhino poach­ing has been ar­rested for rob­bing a cou­ple on a farm in Kameel­fontein, Lim­popo po­lice said yes­ter­day. The man and two oth­ers were ar­rested near Vaal­wa­ter on Sun­day for rob­bery and pos­ses­sion of un­li­censed firearms and am­mu­ni­tion, po­lice spokesman Bri­gadier Hang­wani Mu­laudzi said. Five men had tied up a cou­ple and robbed them of R2 000, $2 000 (R22 250), four di­a­mond wed­ding rings, cell­phones, lap­tops, firearms, doc­u­ments and a hand­bag, he said. The ar­rests were made after an eighthour man­hunt in­volv­ing two he­li­copters and the com­mu­nity polic­ing fo­rum. “One of the sus­pects was found in pos­ses­sion of a Z88 pis­tol be­long­ing to a po­lice of­fi­cer, the other had two re­volvers, while the third, who was out on bail for rhino poach­ing, was in pos­ses­sion of an un­li­censed firearm and am­mu­ni­tion. Po­lice are still search­ing for the other two,” Mu­laudzi said. – Sapa
