BOTSWANA’S labour and home affairs minister yesterday said he was still considering whether to appeal a high court ruling that Lesbians, Gays and Bisexuals of Botswana (Legabibo) can register as an organisation. “I am still studying the judgment before I can take any decision,” Minister Edwin Batshu told a Sapa correspondent. On Friday, Judge Terrence Rannowane ruled that Legabibo could register as an organisation. The Labour Ministry and the Registrar of Societies had refused to let the organisation register. Judge Rannowane ruled the refusal to be unlawful. Handing down judgment on Friday, he said he had examined the objectives of Legabibo “with a view of finding out if any of them offends the Society’s Act”. He concluded this was not the case. – Sapa
