Probe after sus­pect is shot dead

A MAN was ar­rested in North West yes­ter­day for his al­leged role in the mur­der of a 41-year old man and rape of a woman, po­lice aid. Colonel Sa­bata Mokg­wabone said the 21-year-old was ar­rested in Bux­ton Vil­lage, about 6km from Taung in North West. The man’s ac­com­plice was killed in a con­fronta­tion with po­lice in Taung’s Ex­ten­sion Six early on Thurs­day morn­ing. The 24-year-old al­legedly tried to stab po­lice of­fi­cers who had come to ar­rest him. The two men kid­napped Ephraime The­jane, 41, and his fe­male com­pan­ion after hi­jack­ing them on Sun­day. The­jane was taken from the car and shot dead. The woman was taken to the nearby Dry­harts area where they raped her. The­jane’s body was found in a stream in Ma­to­long vil­lage on Tues­day. The sus­pect is ex­pected to ap­pear in court soon. The In­de­pen­dent Po­lice In­ves­tiga­tive Direc­torate had been called in to in­ves­ti­gate the 24-year old’s death, Mokg­wabone said. – Sapa
