Nine jailed for disco in­ferno

A PHILIP­PINE court yes­ter­day con­victed nine peo­ple of graft of­fences re­lated to a disco fire that killed 162 peo­ple – mainly high school pupils – in March 1996. The fire that gut­ted the Ozone Dance Club in Que­zon, Manila, was con­sid­ered the worst in the Philip­pines. The anti-graft court sentenced two own­ers of the disco and seven for­mer city en­gi­neers to be­tween six years and 10 years in prison.
