A man was arrested in Rustenburg East on Sunday. “A rapid response by police in Rustenburg led to the arrest of a Nigerian national in the early hours of Sunday for the alleged rape of a 21-yearold woman,” he said. Mokgwabone said the suspect and the woman were said to have met in the Rustenburg CBD on Saturday and exchanged numbers. They allegedly met in the evening for drinks. The woman allegedly asked to be taken home in the early hours of Sunday, but the suspect “took her to his place where he and his friend repeatedly raped her”. The woman’s friend contacted the police and a manhunt was launched. “When police arrived at the suspect’s place, the man ran away, but he was arrested after an extensive search in the area.” He was expected to appear in the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court today.
