A SHOPOWNER, his two brothers and a security guard have been arrested over the killing of two men they suspected of shoplifting in Phuthaditjhaba. It is believed the pair were kidnapped on New Year’s Day after buying refreshments from the store’s owner in the Matsikeng area. The victims, aged 23 and 29, apparently accompanied a man to get refreshments from a shop in Matsikeng when they were attacked on their way back by men who were following them. Police spokesperson Brigadier Sam Makhele said the three allegedly tried to outrun their attackers but two of them were caught and loaded on the back of the bakkie, which transported them back to the shop. It is suspected that this was where they were assaulted, before their bodies were dumped near the old golf course in Club View, Phuthaditjhaba. The bodies were found yesterday morning at the golf course. Makhele said the four suspects would appear in the Makwane Magistrate’s Court for allegedly kidnapping and murdering the two men. – ANA
