IN­DIA and Sri Lanka have agreed to the re­lease of over 50 In­dian fish­er­men in Sri Lankan cus­tody af­ter mak­ing head­way in set­tling the long-stand­ing fish­er­men is­sue dur­ing a bi­lat­eral min­is­te­rial-level meet­ing in Colombo, the In­dian Min­istry of Ex­ter­nal Af­fairs said yes­ter­day.

“Af­ter the meet­ing, Sri Lanka will re­lease 51 fish­er­men in their cus­tody while In­dia will re­lease three fish­er­men in their cus­tody. Also Sri Lanka has agreed to con­sider our re­quest for re­lease of boats (cap­tured by Sri Lanka),” a min­istry spokesman said.
