Man held for at­tempted mur­der

A 21-YEAR-OLD man was ar­rested in the Joburg CBD for at­tempted mur­der, po­lice said yes­ter­day. Spokesper­son Cap­tain Xoli Mbele, who is sta­tioned at Jo­han­nes­burg Cen­tral po­lice sta­tion, said that on New Year’s Eve the sus­pect al­legedly as­saulted a 32-year-old man us­ing bricks from a pave­ment at the cor­ner of An­der­son and Alexan­der streets. “The sus­pect con­fronted the vic­tim, who was walk­ing un­der­neath a bridge. He as­saulted him with bricks un­til he was un­con­scious and then robbed him of his cell­phone,” said Mbele. Com­mu­nity mem­bers made a cit­i­zen’s ar­rest and called the po­lice. The vic­tim was taken by am­bu­lance to hos­pi­tal. The sus­pect will ap­pear in the Jo­han­nes­burg Mag­is­trate’s Court soon.
