Hitler still a hit
MOSCOW: An annotated critical edition of Adolf Hitler’s manifesto
Mein Kampf climbed to bestseller status last year to sell some 85 000 copies in Germany, the Institute of Contemporary History (IfZ) said yesterday.
The book went on sale on January 8, 2016, for the first time since the end of World War II, after the copyright of the book held by the German state of Bavaria expired in late 2015.
“Around 85 000 copies of the edition have been sold over the counter since January 2016. It has at times topped Der Spiegel’s bestseller list,” the IfZ said in a statement released here.
IfZ director Andreas Wirsching reportedly said the publisher did not expect to sell more than 4 000 copies.
The Nazi manifesto has been reprinted five times, with a sixth edition to appear by the end of this month.
