It’s warmer over Gauteng, expect rain at weekend
TEMPERATURES in Gauteng were expected to increase today while the chance of rainfall should subside.
But the SA Weather Service warned that the cool and wet conditions in the province could return this weekend.
SAWS forecaster Wayne Venter told The Star that clear skies were likely in Joburg and Pretoria for the rest of the week. “There should be an increase in temperatures in the province, with mid- to high 20s expected.”
Venter said there could still be rainfall in parts of Gauteng this week, including a 30 percent chance of showers and thunder showers today, tomorrow and on Thursday.
But the downpours were expected to increase significantly in Gauteng from Friday and into the weekend, with a 60 to 80 percent chance of showers and thundershowers. Venter added that this weekend rainfall would also cause a drop in temperatures.
Meanwhile, rainfall was also expected in other parts of the country today.
Venter said these included a 30 to 60 percent chance of showers and thundershowers in parts of the Northern Cape, Eastern Cape, North West, Free State, Mpumalanga and Limpopo.
Rainfall in recent months across the country has caused havoc on the roads, leading to many deaths and causing damage to property.
Authorities have urged motorists, pedestrians and those living near low-lying areas to take the necessary precautions during floods.
