These kids need us

The Star Early Edition - - OPINION & ANALYSIS -

WITH schools opening today, many children will be walking barefoot to class. Poverty among many of our communities, especially in rural areas and informal settlements, is real.

Most families can’t even afford a decent meal. School uniforms, stationery, books and shoes are beyond the reach for many of our people. At this time of the year when new kids start school, we urge those who can afford to share with the poor by assisting with shoes, uniforms and other necessities. They don’t have to be new.

There are several campaigns countrywide where celebrities and ordinary people donate shoes to the kids. This is appreciated, but we can do more. We ordinary people also need to join in and change the lives of these little ones.

Let’s open our hearts and minds and assist where we can. By so doing we are investing in the future of our country.

These kids need our help.
