IT’S AN an old South African joke that the GT in GTS stands for GeTune; well, in the case of the latest Porsche 911 GTS, that is literally true.
The three-litre flat six in the new GTS due in South Africa in the second quarter of the year, is now turbocharged along with the rest of the 911 range, delivering a howling 331kW and 550Nm – that’s 15kW and 110Nm more than the previous, naturally aspirated GTS.
More to the point, it also has a torque curve that looks like Table Mountain, with 550Nm on tap anywhere from 2150-5000rpm. That’s good enough for a 0-100km/h blastoff in as little as 3.6 seconds and 312km/h flat out.
Power is laid down at either the rear wheels or all four, via PDK seven-speed auto or optional seven-speed manual gearboxes.
Pricing will range from R1 695 000 to R1 966 000 across five body styles .
