20 pupils hurt on Gauteng roads
A DAY after four schoolchildren were killed in a horrific crash near Durban, 15 children were injured in a separate taxi accident while on their way to school in Midrand yesterday.
Emer-G-Med spokesperson Maxwell Cohen said the accident occurred just after 7am on the corner of Richards and Church roads in Midrand.
“The 15 schoolkids, all aged around seven, sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.
“When paramedics arrived, some of the children were found walking around the scene, while others were sitting on the pavement and in the vehicle,” he said.
They were triaged and treated at the scene before being taken to various nearby hospitals for further care.
In a separate incident, also yesterday morning, five schoolchildren sustained injuries after a collision involving a bakkie and school transport vehicle on the corner of Rooihuiskraal and Ruimte roads in Centurion.
“The cause of the collision is unknown and will be investigated by local authorities,” Cohen added.
On Wednesday, a taxi collided with a bus in early morning traffic, killing four children and injuring 17, in Ntuzuma township, north of Durban.
