Bod­ies of 13 mi­grants found; 750 res­cued

ROME: About 750 mi­grants have been res­cued in the Mediter­ranean and 13 bod­ies have been re­cov­ered, the Ital­ian Coast Guard has re­ported.

The re­port on Satur­day of a sink­ing about 50km from the Libyan coast, af­ter which eight bod­ies have been re­cov­ered, risks, how­ever, be­ing much heav­ier since the boat car­ried more than 100 mi­grants.

The Ital­ian gov­ern­ment said 181 000 mi­grants, mostly from Libya, ar­rived in Italy last year.

Nearly 5 000 died dur­ing the cross­ing, ac­cord­ing to the In­ter­na­tional Or­gan­i­sa­tion for Mi­gra­tion (IOM).
