SOYA bean futures for March delivery climbed 0.6 percent to close at $10.46 a bushel (R5 178 a ton) on the Chicago Board of Trade on Friday, ahead of yesterday’s public holday in the US.
Soya beans had touched $10.52 a bushel, the highest for the contract since December 12.
The price gained 5.2 percent last week, the most since November 25.
“The Argentina crop is going downhill and the US crop last year was smaller than expected,” Mark Schultz, the chief analyst at Northstar Commodity Investment in Minneapolis, said in an interview. – Bloomberg
